Vol. 3 - The Plot In You
Landon and company are back with an extremely creative EP! Don’t worry. This EP is still full of everything that you love about The Plot In You, but with a twist. Each song has it’s own unique sound, which I really love. Popular Metalcore has been a little dull lately, and it’s nice to hear some ingenuity on this side of the genre. Definitely recommend giving this one a spin. I also bet you a coffee that you’ll bang your head within the first 10 seconds of “Spare Me”.
Regret - Set//Adrift
An early Christmas present from the Texas Melodic Hardcore juggernauts, Set//Adrift never disappoints. If you were a fan of “The Difference Between Hell and Home” by Counterparts, you’re going to feel right at home listening to this single. With Dave Alcan crushing it on the production as always, this moody track is definitely the vibe for those that want to be in their feels.
On a personal note, two of the members are dear friends of mine, and it has been an absolute pleasure watching them grow as musicians. I tip my hat to y’all. Very, very well done.
Code
Remix.js
Omg another framework?! Yep. And this is a good one.
I stumbled upon this one on accident…sort of. I was diving into Shopify’s Hydrogen framework to further expand my knowledge and product offerings for my business, when I realized that Hydrogen uses Remix as it’s foundation. Considering I have no experience with the framework, I naturally decided to spin up a Remix project to learn it and try it out.
First impression is that this is a Next.js alternative that is PACKED with awesome features and a brilliant developer experience. It feels more like building with regular old React than all the syntax bullsht that comes with Next. As I gain more experience in the web dev world, I prefer to have more control and less abstraction over my tools, and frameworks like Astro or Remix give me that. Next is just flat out annoying to build with at times.
One thing I really, really liked about Remix was the ability to have dynamic routing, but only change one component on the page. So basically, say you have a dashboard with a side menu, but you only want the “active screen” to change. Well, you can do that, and the URL will change, but it won’t completely re-render the page, just the component. This also isolates errors. So if the component has an error, it can show it’s own error state without crashing the entire page. Love this.
I can see this being really powerful for web apps and super dynamic websites. I’ll give more thoughts as I use it more, but for now, this is a winner.

Grid Systems
My buddy Austin is a professional graphic designer and brand strategist, and he recommended this book to me this week. I’ve been trying to up my web design game, and one thing I struggle the most with is my layouts.
This isn’t the most exciting book in the world, but it is packed with really useful information. I’m only about 30 pages in so far and have learned a ton about the history and science of typography, along with the importance of grids in design. Very stoked to read more.
That’s all for this week’s pull request. Let’s go ahead and merge this to main. I hope you have an amazing weekend!
